Established on March 19, 1991, Media Review is the unique Nigerian publication that focuses on the importance and place of the media of public communications in the lives of Nigerians. It operates from the premise that the media being powerful organs of information and socialisation occupy a privileged position of trust that what is served to the public should be in the public interest. But because of
human frailties, it appreciates they may not always deliver on what is expected of them. Media Review,
therefore, holds that the media as keepers of public conscience and morality need a regular and special
attention from a special medium so that the public trust reposed in them is not misplaced. That was what
the Media Review set out to do from inception: providing guidance to the media where it is necessary,
promoting better public understanding of the processes, trends, people and events as they shape the
content and tone of the media. In communications parlance, that is a good example of development journalism.
