His election was by acclamation after consultation with stakeholders in the industry. He becomes the seventh president to lead the 45 year old association. In this interview with Lekan Oladeinde, Ogunshola speaks on his new assignment as the new president and the methods he would use to solve some of the problems bedeviling the association.

Building Trust through Effective Public Communications Strategies

There are, in essence, three issues I want to address during the course of my presentation. They are, in my view, non-negotiable if you are serious about your role and responsibilities as a public official. They are: Do no harm. Master the Fundamentals and Constantly Reassess the Communications Environment.

DAME

‘DAME started like a mustard seed’
I have a lot of respect for DAME. When they started 16 years ago, it was an intangible idea and not many people, including those in the media, took them with a pinch of salt. HUMOUR

You started it
Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources person asked a young applicant fresh out of Journalism School , "And what starting salary are you looking for?”
The applicant said, "In the neighborhood of N1.2m a year, depending on the benefits package.”
The interviewer said, "Well, what would you say to a package of 5-weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every two years - say, the latest Toyota Camry?”
The applicant sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?” And the interviewer replied, "Yeah, but you started it."...| Read more

'Get it right'

There was something of the deja-vu in the cant that accompanied the dissolution of the boards of Federal Government agencies. "…The President of the Federal Republic …," announced the circular from the office of the secretary to the Federal Government, "has approved the dissolution, in the public interest (italics ours), of the boards of all federal parastatals, agencies, companies and institutions."

The records of past boards, their public perception as incubators of sleaze in the public space and the awesome incompetence of some of these agencies in service delivery mock the very concept of public interest. It has been more of private interests at public expense ...|Read more
