The room provided for politicians to move to other parties to secure tickets is a vindication of those who argue for the widening of the political space. The issue really is about the freedom to associate freely, organising for political purposes. That is the inherent beauty of many parties.
The proponents of the imposition of a two-party structure are missing quite a lot of points in the debate about the liberalisation of the political space. It should be remembered that the political space has not always been as wide as we have it today. Whatever space we find today is the gain of spirited struggles for popular democracy. It is a fact of our history that since the colonial days the Nigerian people have fought this freedom.
